Making money on the road can make you happy, allow you to pay bills, and give you a relief of comfort that you are on the right track…but what about your health? As Truckers, we tend to forget about our health until it is too late. Nothing sucks more than having a good financial position to do things but your body is unable to do them. It is nothing more than being a prisoner by your own weight.

20 lbs of weight is almost half a bag of concrete. Imagine how your body will thank you for keeping that type of weight off.

With this post, I am going to break down the calories it takes to make/lose 20lbs. This break down helped me stay on track while watching my weight. Maybe it will help you, too. So, without further due, let’s get started.

First, what does 20lbs worth the calories look like? Below, I will do the math so you can see for yourself what the calories might look like.

It takes approximately 3500 calories to make/lose 1 lbs of fat. Therefore,

20lbs x 3500 = 70,000 calories

With 70,000 calories, that is a lot of calories to work with. So, let’s break down by 12 months, 6 months, then 1 month to see how realistically you can lose weight and the time it takes to lose it.

12 months 20 lbs.

If we are going to break down in 12 months, let’s break it down by days. There are 365 days in a year. I will be rounding up to make this simple. Therefore,

70,000 calories divided by 365 = 192 Calories per day.

You would need to cut 1,344 calories per week to lose 20lbs in 12 months.

So, to lose 20lbs in 12 months, you need to cut ruffly 192 Calories per day. I guess this could be the soda that your drinking. You can change this by opting for black coffee, Tea, or water. Don’t forget that you can use water flavoring with caffeine if you need the caffeine to function.

6 months lose 20 lbs

Now, Let’s see how many calories it takes to lose 20lbs in 6 months. We will round as 30 days to 1 month to make the math easy. Therefore,

70,000 calories divided by 180 = 389 calories.

389 x 7 = 2,723 calories to lose in a week.

You would need to cut 2,723 calories per week to lose 20lbs in 6 months. Maybe by changing just a few habits, you can cut this down within 6 months. Generally, to do this while on the road you need to have a good cooler. I can’t stress enough. Without a quality cooler, it will be a struggle to keep your weight at bay.

1 month lose 20 lbs

Here is the last and final step. How many calories does it take to lose 20 lbs fat with a caloric deficit. Therefore,

70,000 calories divided by 30 days = 2,333 calories per day.

2,333 x 7 days = 16,331 calories you need to cut/burn

Keep in mind that there are other factors that can kick in. Most of the time people will lose 20 lbs of water weight before they ever get to the actual fat burning stage. Losing water weight is the first real step in making any changes.

This article is a quick guide of caloric intake vs burned/out. Hope this helps.
